>> Must Watch! When Americans 🇺🇸 Move To Germany 🇩🇪 Culture Shock Unavoidable..

Image
Hello everybody.  Have you ever been to a country that was so different from your own that it took you quite a while to adjust? Well, this is often the case when Americans make the move to Germany. From language, to food, to shopping and free time activities, you will gain a whole new perspective on life if you discover a new country. Just like in the video above. Recently, I have heard about several Americans, who are in the process of moving to Deutschland/just arrived. Having lived in 4 different countries myself by now, I must say, really changed my world view. I have gained a different kind of understanding. And what are your younger years better used for, than exploring other cultures and surroundings than the ones you grew up in and are used to? I think you can only grow and evolve from an experience like that. If you like it or not, when you get back home, you have some international stories to tell! When I moved to NYC I also felt like I was walking around on a movi...

>> I went to Berlin to see what's up - Highlights: I ate a Döner & met a Transformer!!

Image
Hello my dear readers! Many things have happened recently and everything went pretty fast so I am going to update you a little. Last month I went to Berlin to see what's up and also, to visit my former workplace NBC Universal . Or I should probably say, the place where they used to be located, right next to the Brandenburg Gate, one of the major tourist attractions. The Starbucks on the corner is still there!  As an attentive reader, you probably know by now, that I used to live and work in many different countries. USA, England and Canada. So much so, that people sometimes tend to question my nationality. Just to clear that up - I am German. When you go back a few generations there is bit of Czech Republic in our family tree too. But often times I wish I would be more exotic! :D Another thing I have always been wishing for, was to have family members around the world. So I could visit and freely decide, where I want to live and work but for me it is just no...

>> Travel News: Viva España! Come With Me On A City Trip To Madrid!

Image
Hello again, dear readers! Long time no see. I want to know what you have been up to! Do you want to know what I have been up to? Lately I have been traveling around quite a bit and now I want to share some of my impressions of the capital of Spain with you. ⛱ With its about 3.3 million inhabitants, Madrid is the third biggest city in the EU after London and Berlin. With countless parks and many museums filled with European art, there is a lot to see!  This is a nice palm tree which gave me vacation feels! 😎 Madrid is a vibrant city with the majority of people being as nocturnal as I am. 😊 Really, they are very night active. After siesta, the calm afternoon hours, they are eating a late dinner around 8 pm and staying up pretty much all night in one of the bars or restaurants of the city. While you are there, you could try tapas or paella, some of the national dishes of Spain. Or a  bocadillo de calamares, see below: One of the fountains at Ret...

>> Italy - A Sunny Trip To Tuscany: From Cinque Terre To The Leaning Tower!

Image
Riomaggiore - part of Cinque Terre Hello everybody !  Before it is Christmas, I want to finally take the time to post the article about our - still kind of recent - vacation in Tuscany. Clocking in even more family time, it was my first trip to Italy EVER! I had high expectations because so many picturesque movies took place there. The highlight of our trip was definitely  Cinque Terre  which  'is a string of centuries-old seaside villages on the rugged Italian Riviera coastline. In each of the 5 towns, colorful houses and vineyards cling to steep terraces.' Painted tiles at the t rain station - Riomaggiore City center - Lucca Pisa fountain + Editor-in-Chief Riomaggiore is the first of the five coastal villages.  You can get there by train from Pisa via La Spezia.  All the villages are connected via footpaths and  you can walk over to visit them one by one. Sometimes,  a path is blocked for the day in ...

>> Summertime: Familienurlaub An Der Ostsee = Family Vacation at The Baltic Sea!

Image
beach babe :/ Hello dear readers, I am back again after a little break from my Blogger duties. This time I want to share a few impressions from our family vacation at the Baltic Sea or Ostsee (as we Germans say). Ever since I was a child we tried to go on an annual family summer vacation together. So I was there when I was like 7, 10 or 12. The baltic sea is one of the favorite summer destinations in Germany. The weather, the beach and the climate are what is most interesting about the area.   Harbour in Wismar souvenirs and postcards miniature ships - they also had ships in a bottle After a few years without a family vacation, we decided this year is a good year to bring back this tradition. We rented a bungalow only a few kilometers from the beach, which also had a garden with BBQ area. My nephew Fynn makes the best steaks, even though he is only 10. :) So the most important thing for us, was spending time together. As we get older, we somet...

>> Exotic Travel Adventure: From London to Berlin On The Orient Express!

Image
The question is: Would we or would we not like to go on a comfortable journey  from London to Berlin   on the legendary  Orient Express ?  The loud and clear answer is: YES! We definitely would! :) From tomorrow on, this route really exists and will also make a quick stop at Paris along the way. Talking about a travel adventure! With prices starting from £2,210 per person for a round trip, we have to keep blogging for a while and sell some ad space before this can become reality. As it says in the press release : 'Travelling in the original art-deco carriages of the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, evokes the glamour of the roaring 1920s.  Departing London on Thursday 2 June, the 2 day, 1 night journey from London to Berlin allows guests the time to slow down, relax and enjoy the journey as the train makes its way through Northern France; traversing the German countryside and arriving in time to spend the weekend in one of Europe’s most fas...

>> Happy New Year 2016! Exploring Berlin - Museums, Alexanderplatz & An AirBnB Flat!

Image
Alexanderplatz - Berlin Zentrum Hello dear readers and a Happy New Year 2016 to you! May you have a year full of clarity, joy and memorable moments. As you might have noticed, I took a little break from the blog but now here I am - back again. Today I want to share a little travel adventure via plane, train and even bus, with you. In December I took my annual Christmas break and went to my hometown in East Germany. As always family time is my main priority but this time there was something else on the holiday schedule too - a 3 day trip to Berlin ! Let's just ignore the fact that I was living there for 1 year in 2006, because a few things have changed and I was able to re-visit the capital from the perspective of a tourist.  We wanted to make full use of our time in Berlin, so we had to make sure to find a place as close to the center as possible.   We found a very nice, small and inexpensive flat from which you could even see the TV to...

>> Discover Japan From A Cat's Perspective - With The Street View Map For Cats!

Image
Why shouldn't a cat have the option to find the best spots in the city, online? :) This is obviously what the Hiroshima tourism board thought, when they decided to create a Google Street view style tool especially for our curious and fluffy, feline friends. Questions like: 'Where is the best free food lying around' and 'where can I meet up with my furry buddies', will be answered here. Hiroshima prefecture has designed the cat's eye street map . If you try it out, you will encounter ca. 8 cats during your stroll through   Onomichi city , which is located about 70 km from Hiroshima.  Using 360-degree cameras at a low height, made it possible to experience life from a different angle - from a cat's point of view! More locations and details will be added later this year. Purrfect. (all photos  ©   Cat Street View )
