>> OMG - London Underground on Strike for Almost a Whole Week?!

Image
Hello everybody, I hope all is well. Welcome back to your favorite blog about t ransport and travel disruptions.  I have just read that London Underground workers have gone on a 5-day strike! It started on Sunday and will last until Friday morning. This could be the longest one yet that I can recall and I am wondering how I would have managed to get to work under these circumstances if I were currently in London with the responsibility of getting to my workplace on a daily basis. Only two options come to mind: get up earlier and use buses or take the southwest train that goes to Waterloo — and probably a bus from there too. Last year, we had to deal with strike action as well, but mostly for up to 3 days 'only'.  I understand why the Underground workers are striking, fair pay and working conditions matter. At the same time, I can also see how incredibly frustrating this must be for anyone who needs to get into central London every day. I am not currently affected by this but I...

>> I Object! I Would Like The Court To Reconsider. How Is This Birkenstock Sandal Not A Work Of Art?! πŸ’πŸΌ‍♀️

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to the most stylish blog out there. Is this quite the scandal or what?!  A German court has ruled that Birkenstock shoes do not qualify as works of art. The company had sought to have its footwear recognized as artwork to obtain stronger copyright protections. However, the court determined that Birkenstock's designs lacked sufficient individuality, stating that 'pure craftsmanship' alone was not enough. You can read all about it here . 'Birkenstock shoes are traditionally made in Germany. The company has a long history, dating back to 1774 and its manufacturing operations are based in Germany. While they may source some materials from other countries, the majority of the production, including the iconic footbeds, is done in their factories there. The brand is known for its high-quality craftsmanship and their products are considered a symbol of German engineering and comfort.' That is obviously me on my way to the supermarket. I bel...

>> Olympics 2024: Is This The Coolest Photo You Have Ever Seen Or What?! πŸ„

Image
© Jérôme Brouillet Hello dear readers, Thank you for stopping by here today to briefly discuss one of the most spectacular scenes of the 2024 Paris Olympics so far. This whole situation reminded me of an article I wrote in 2020 about the Fliteboard . Surfer Gabriel Medina has delivered one of the most unforgettable moments of the Olympics, with an airborne celebration so perfectly executed it seemed almost unreal and photographer  Jérôme Brouillet was able to capture it.  This photo became an instant classic a few days ago:  Seriously, is this an olympian or an avenger?! We are not sure. And surfing is not easy at all.. On this Blog we have a thing for surfers anyway. But who doesn't - don't judge.  😎 The point is, after all we have seen already, there are still photos that go down in history right away based on sheer skills, timing and brilliance. Congratulations on this perfect shot.  πŸ“Έ πŸ‘πŸ½

>> Turbulent Times: Here Are Some Important Words By Some Very Intelligent People

Image
Hello everybody, welcome back. As you know by now, there are protests going on worldwide, initiated by the senseless and violent crime against George Floyd of Minneapolis. In turbulent times like this, all of us need thoughtful and decisive leadership. Since we already know, that we can not expect to get that from a Reality TV Show host, we need to turn to America's Late Night hosts instead. When times are uncertain and confusing, it is always appreciated to receive a summary of the latest events by Stephen Colbert . Additionally, here is Trevor Noah 's very open and real take, on what is happening right now. He has some really insightful thoughts to share. Good that we switched notifications on so we saw this video, right after it was released. We said it before and we say it again, Trevor Noah is making a huge impact since several years now and we think with his authenticity and ability to share the truth and important facts, even within a comedic setting, he...

>> Insider News: Germany Lockdown - What Is It Like In This Country? PLUS Easter BBQ During Quarantine With Great Music!

Image
This is a stock photo to enhance the positive energy of this post Hello everyone, I thought I give you a little glimpse into what the lockdown situation is currently like in Germany. So ever since March, most stores and all schools are closed. You can still go to the supermarket, where they disinfect the shopping basket once you return it. Keeping your distance to other shoppers is required, wearing a mask during the shopping run is recommended but not ordered by law as of yet.  Necessary places like hospitals and elderly homes continue to operate, with additional safety measures.   Just like everywhere, protective gear is in high demand and sold out in stores mostly. But you can still get it on online - sent from China or from within Germany where self sewn re-usable cotton mask stores pop up online left and right with any prints/colors you can imagine. Greetings from my (backyard) home office to yours.  Daily quarantine routine does not really includ...

>> What To Do In Times Of Crisis? πŸ€” Rule Number 1: Don't Consume The Media Hype. Give Yourself A Break..

Image
Hey everyone, we hope you are all doing well. Yes, this is a News Blog but we are going to have a different approach on commenting on what is going on in the world right now, than 90% of all other news outlets. First of all we want to say that the 'news coverage' of covid-19 in our opinion is irresponsible and vile. If it is the TV, radio or online content, on pretty much every website - there seems to be no escape. Turn it off.. take a break. If you are a person with a tendency to anxiety or stress, some news channels obviously want to take you out before this virus could  even potentially ever get to you. I'm not sure if there is something else going on that we are all supposed to be distracted from but this 'news coverage' (aka panic mode starter) does not help anyone. It does not inform or advise you in a calm and helpful manner. We take the situation serious as well and will take precautions during this time but we will not stress you out. What...

>> News Video: Google's Year In Search - This Is What You Wanted To Know In 2016!

Image
Hallo dear readers! The year is coming to an end and here is a short video to briefly sum it up for you. Google also compiled a list of the top worldwide searches once again. Many shocking and unexpected things have happened this year. Personally, I remember the day when Brexit occured, it was my last day at the office in London before I moved back to Germany. What a coincidence.   I was surprised but considering the mood in London, I knew there was a real possibility for it to happen. And so it did. We have lost some amazing artists and sports people, technology marched on and we are still far away from world peace. The US election captivated the world, so did the refugee crisis. Here are some of the results. For more go to Google's Year In Search 2016 directly. >> Fashion & Style Sunday: We Declare Marigold THE Trend Color Of Autumn 2015!

Image
It is Sunday and because we are a blog, we would like to talk about something 98% of all other blogs are talking about FASHION ! First of all this is not a fashion blog so please big fashion companies - stop throwing money and expensive clothes at me! I have no more space to store them.. The reality is, nobody actually does that because I am not a Fashion Blogger . I do not follow dictated trends and I do not see the point of posting 20 photos of myself from 10 different angles in one article because I am not that self-absorbed. I do however, have a lot of respect for Fashion/Lifestyle Bloggers who have built up their site from zero followers to big audiences completely on their own, managing it, maintaining it and coming up with interesting content and product reviews we can all learn from. :) Some people just have a great sense of style and share it. So, good job! What I am not a fan of, are  brag blogs  like 'look where I am now, look I just shopped at Chan...

>> News: How Can A Plane Just Disappear?

Image
Malaysia's civil aviation chief Azharuddin Abdul Rahman You have probably heard about it because it is all over the news right now! On Saturday a plane, carrying 239 people just disappeared from the radar. It left the airport in Kuala Lumpur towards Bejing where it was supposed to land - but 1 hour later it vanished. So far, nobody has an explanation for what might have happened to flight MH370 and its passengers. Malaysia's civil aviation chief Azharuddin Abdul Rahman (pictured above) said at the press conference: 'Today, we have used a large number of assets, comprising of 34 aircraft, 40 ships, hundreds of men, thousands of man-hours has been deployed. And countries that assisted us include: Vietnam, China, Singapore, Indonesia, USA , Thailand, Australia and the Philippines .' The search area has now been extended west, based on the theory that the plane turned back. So far, no remains of the Boeing have been found on the ground either. There is sti...
