>> Innovation: Animal Lace 3D-printed Wall Sculptures

Image
If you can 3D-print a car, then you can certainly 3D-print an elephant ! But try creating such a sculpture, with a lace structure. This sounds tricky and it probably is! The concept for Animal Lace - 3D printed wall sculptures, came from the creative minds of Paris based artists Linlin and Pierre-Yves Jacques , two experts in the field of digital creation.    These wall sculptures, can be illuminated with compact lighting and showcase graphical shadows on their surroundings. The material they are made of, is 3D printed polyamide finished with a glossy white paint. Another great invention by the two digital creators, is a lamp that will cover your walls in lace: A Lace Lamp ! For more infos on their work, click HERE . (all artwork & photos © LPJacques.com )

>> Technology: The Worlds First 3D-Printed Car

Image
Jay Rogers and the team of Local Motors You and I knew, that it was only a matter of time until somebody would attempt to 3D-print a fully functional car ! Well it is 2014 and THAT TIME has now arrived. Jay Rogers and the team of his Arizona-based company Local Motors made it happen! In a total of only 44 hours, they printed all the necessary parts and put them together at the International Manufacturing Technology Show in front of hundreds of interested witnesses. The 2-seater was named 'Strati' which means 'layer' in Italian and looks to us like a XXL Playmobil car. (in a good way :) See the fascinating video of its production below or read a full length interview with Jay Rogers on this project and the future of auto manufacturing at Inc.com . If someone could print us a silver one.. that would be AMAZING, thank you. (photo and video via LocalMotors.com )

> Cool Idea: 3D Ice Figures In Your Drink

Image
3D printing is currently the most promising and innovative technology progression we have! What to do with it? Hm, here is a very light - and COOL - approach! How about the Statue of Liberty toasting towards you, while you are sipping on your drink? Pretty awesome, right? Japanese company Santury, created a variety of ice figures in iconic shapes . It is a clever idea , most likely invented to excite us and to plug their alcoholic beverage. We demand the Eiffel Tower !! That being said, we wouldn't mind, finding the Sphinx in our coke either!
